Luminous is an interactive light sculpture made up of five 2m-wide spherical lanterns mounted on 8m-tall poles. The spheres are made from folded aluminium webs and are evocative of traditional Chinese paper lanterns. At the core of each sphere is a set of 12 LED pixel tubes. Motion detectors on each pole provide stimulus to a control program - which calculates colour-wave responses to human movement. The work is installed at Chinatown in Northbridge, Western Australia and is illuminated nightly from 6pm.
